RIOS Certified Recycler

Coretek 360 is certified to the Recycling Industry Operating Standard, one management system for quality, environment, and health and safety, written for recyclers and verified by independent audit. The page explains what the standard requires, what it means for your retired hardware, and shows our entry in the RIOS directory with the commodities it covers.

About our RIOS certification

NIST Special Publication 800-88 Rev. 2

NIST 800-88 compliant media sanitization

What the National Institute of Standards and Technology asks for in its Guidelines for Media Sanitization, and how Coretek 360 meets it. The page explains the Clear, Purge, and Destroy methods, matches every field the standard wants on a certificate of sanitization to what we record for each drive, and introduces Averase, our own software that runs the wipes and signs the certificates.

HIPAA compliant IT asset disposition

What HIPAA is, who it covers, and what its Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules require when devices that held protected health information are retired. How Coretek 360 meets them: every drive sanitized to NIST 800-88 or shredded, a chain of custody by serial number, and a certificate of data destruction your auditors can check device by device.

Frequently asked questions.

What compliance and security teams ask before they retire hardware with us.

Which certifications do you hold?

Coretek 360 is R2v3 certified and a RIOS Certified Recycler. Media sanitization follows NIST 800-88, and handling is HIPAA compliant. Those are the four accreditations we hold, all current, and each one is something your compliance reviewer can check before signing off on a vendor.

What does R2v3 cover at Coretek 360?

Coretek 360's R2v3 certificate, number C0177760-R26, was issued by NSF and is listed in the SERI directory. It covers the downstream recycling chain, logical data sanitization, and test and repair. Physical destruction, including drive shredding, is performed in house and is outside the current scope, and we are working to add it.

What is the difference between R2v3 and RIOS?

R2v3 is the Responsible Recycling standard for electronics reuse and recycling. It sets requirements for data security, environmental protection, and worker safety at a certified facility. RIOS, the Recycling Industry Operating Standard, is a management system standard covering quality, environment, and health and safety for recyclers. Coretek 360 holds both. Our R2v3 scope does not yet include shredding.

Do I get proof that my data was destroyed?

Yes. Every drive is recorded by serial number and you receive a certificate of data destruction for each one, along with a serialized asset report. The report records custody, the NIST 800-88 method used or the shredding, and the final disposition, so the proof is per device rather than per job.

What does NIST 800-88 compliance mean?

NIST Special Publication 800-88 is the federal guideline for media sanitization. Drives are cleared, purged, or destroyed to its methods, and the result is documented per serial number. At Coretek 360 that means a verified wipe or in-house shredding, with a certificate for each drive. Shredding is not yet within our R2v3 scope, which covers logical data sanitization and test and repair, and we are working to add it.

Can you support HIPAA requirements?

Yes. Our handling is HIPAA compliant. Devices that held patient data are wiped to NIST 800-88 or shredded, and the certificate of data destruction and serialized report give a covered entity the documentation its auditors ask for. The same documentation also supports GLBA, FERPA, and PCI DSS reviews.

How is chain of custody documented?

Custody is recorded by serial number at every handoff. Pickups run on a schedule in tracked vehicles, assets are logged at your dock, and the chain of custody continues onto the Coretek 360 floor through sanitization and final disposition. The serialized report you receive records each of those steps.

What do our auditors receive?

A serialized asset report covering custody, sanitization, and disposition for every asset, plus a certificate of data destruction per drive. Auditors reviewing against HIPAA, GLBA, FERPA, PCI DSS, CJIS, SOX, or state privacy laws get documentation they can check line by line rather than a summary letter.

How do I get help with a pickup or report?

Choose Support as your reason on the contact form, include the pickup date or the report you need, and the team will follow up. You can also email support@coretek360.com or call (704) 792-2221. Reports are organized by serial number, so include the serials you are asking about when you can.

What if my industry has its own rules?

The same certified process applies to any organization. What changes is the regulation you answer to and the documents your auditors ask for. Tell us whether that is HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, PCI DSS, or CJIS, and we will plan the pickup, the sanitization method, and the serialized reporting around it.
